Preparing Your Dog for Their First Boarding Stay at Country Pup Kennel
Boarding your dog for the first time can feel like a big step—for both you and your pup! At Country Pup Kennel, we want every dog’s stay to be safe, comfortable, and stress-free. A little preparation ahead of time can make a huge difference in helping your dog settle in quickly and enjoy their visit.
Here are some important tips to help get your dog ready for their first boarding experience.

Make Sure Vaccinations Are Up-to-Date
For the health and safety of all pets in our care, we require that dogs are current on their vaccinations. Please make sure your dog has received:
Important: Vaccinations must be completed at least two weeks prior to your dog’s boarding stay. This allows time for immunity to build properly.
If you’re unsure whether your dog is current, contact your veterinarian and request an updated record.
Schedule a Meet & Greet
We require a meet and greet before your dog’s first stay. This gives you the chance to:
A quick visit beforehand can ease anxiety and make drop-off day much smoother.
Pack the Essentials
To keep your dog comfortable, bring the items they use at home. Depending on your dog, this might include:
Keeping their routine consistent helps them feel secure.
Practice Short Separations
If your dog hasn’t been away from you much, try practicing short periods of separation. Leaving them with a trusted friend or family member for a few hours can help them build confidence.
Dogs often pick up on our emotions too—so staying calm and upbeat helps them feel reassured. We highly suggest doing 1/2 days or Full day Daycares leading up to the stay also.
Keep Drop-Off Day Calm
On the day of boarding, try to keep things relaxed. A normal walk, some playtime, and a positive attitude can go a long way. Avoid long goodbyes—dogs do better with quick, confident drop-offs.
We’ll take it from there and make sure your pup feels welcomed and cared for.
